Cats are adorable and loving. They make people’s lives much more happy, energetic and less materialistic. Research indicates that owning a cat is linked to better mood and a decrease in depressive symptoms. But a best cat parent also need for cats proper care and grooming to become healthier, more adorable and more energetic. We want to be the best parents for our cats. Don’t we? Then here are 11 tips from us that can help you become a great parent for your cats:

Do you have the time:

Before bringing a cat home, you need to ask yourselves if you have the time to bring a cat home. Many out there may say that cats can remain by themselves. These are just nonsense talks. In reality, every living thing needs grooming. Compare the cat to a human child. Can it survive without its parents? No, the same is also true with the cats. Cats will take significant time of yours. You will need to play with it, make sure the cat is healthy, take it to the vet from time to time, provide food to the cat according to schedule, take time to groom it, etc. If your life is too busy, then you should not have a cat.

Patience:

You need to understand that cats take their time. As a new cat owner, you have to be patient with the cat you brought home. Compare it to your situation. When we humans go to a new city or country, we are usually a bit anxious and less confident. This is the case with the cats too. When they come into a new environment, they are also scared and less comfortable. Give them the time to get themselves familiar with the new environment.

Adapting and creating a home that suits your cats:

Cats are curious animals. They will not lay back and do nothing. They will find a corner in your house that you did not know existed. So make sure your house does not have harmful animals or toxic plants. Make sure to tape the wires and make inaccessible balconies for cats if your house is not on the top floor.

Create a schedule:

Your cat’s schedule is more or less in your hands. Make sure to create a schedule for playing, eating, sleeping and waking up for your cats. If you have multiple cats, this becomes even more important. If you do not make a proper schedule, then each cat will have a different schedule, and it will be much tougher for you. Creating a schedule and following it will make sure your cat has a healthy life routine.

Have a good relationship with a nearby vet:

After getting a cat or kitten home, make sure to connect with a good vet nearby. Cats do not like going far and also do not like changes regularly. So make sure not to change vets regularly. Find a vet who is good, and try to bond with the vet. Also, make sure to get the necessary vaccinations and checkups for the cats and kittens after discussing them with the vet.

Nutritive food:

Cats are carnivores, as you already know. In their food, they need to have proper protein, which is essential for their health. If you buy cat foods, make sure to consult with the vet to find the best cat foods available that have the perfect balance of nutrition needed by the vet. Also, make sure to feed more fat to the kittens compared to the adults, as the kitten is growing and needs to have more fat and protein in their food menu.

Understand your cat’s behaviors:

Every cat is different, as are their personalities. You need to understand your cat’s behavior. If you understand their behaviors, then their meows, looks and way of walking can help you communicate with them. This is a proven strategy too.

Enjoy playtime:

Make sure to play at least once with your cats. Bring playful and interactive toys, and the cat will try to play with them. You will see that sometimes your cats will come to you and try to be extra cozy with you. Do not throw them away. Talk with them with a soft voice, call their name, cuddle with them and make sure to utilize that time because cats will not do that often. Playing with your cats will help you to bond better with them and enjoy each other’s company.

Proper grooming:

Grooming cats is crucial for their health, even though they enjoy cleaning themselves frequently. At least once a day, brushing is necessary, especially for long-haired cat breeds like Persian cats. They will become clean and dirt-free after brushing. Licking is an easy way for short-haired cats to keep themselves clean, but long-haired cats find it difficult to do so because dirt frequently gets deep inside their fur, making it difficult for them to properly clean. That’s when brushing comes in very handy. Periodically trimming their nails is also crucial. It ensures that your cat is clean and healthy and that any scratches it may give you won’t hurt too badly.

Start training early:

Cats are not born trained. We like when they respond to their names and use the litter boxes. They do not know these things from birth. We need to train them to do these things. So start training them early. The earlier it is, the more receptive they will be. People say cats are antisocial. That is not true. Rather, it means you have not trained it well enough to gel well with people. Try to mix the cat with people from an early age. Cats follow a positive reinforcement method. So make sure to reward them when they do some good work, and that way you can train them properly and make them more social.

Do not shy away from cleaning litter boxes:

I have seen many people shy away from cleaning litter boxes. As a cat parent, this is the most important part. When a child is born, we need to change its diapers and clean the bed to see if it has peed or been eliminated. Think of it that way. Then it would be easier for you. Cats like cleanliness. If the litter box is too dirty, they will not use it and eliminate it in other places, which will make your work much harder.

These qualities can help you become a better parent. Always remember that cats will make your life filled with happiness and make you much more responsible than you ever were. Happy cat parenting!
